Great News! MIM received an Art for Social Change Leeway grant to kick off the Securing Spaces tour.

This spring I will be working with local groups in Philadelphia to offer workshops and document grassroots models of community building. The idea is to focus on Philly in the Spring and kickoff an out-of-state tour during the summer into the Fall, perhaps… stay tuned!

From model neighborhoods in Philadelphia to peace zones in Detroit, Messages in Motion (MIM): Securing Spaces tour will use the discipline of media arts to document and investigate the challenges and possibilities of community–driven strategies for imagining and creating new models of civil society.

The current economic and political moment relies on rhetoric of security to defend the use of increased police presence and surveillance, while actually creating more fear and divisions between citizens. MIM seeks to re-think what it means to be secure by looking at how communities address the interconnected issues of physical well-being, water safety and food safety to create safe spaces in their neighborhoods.

We are currently scheduling workshops for the Spring, Summer and Fall. Please contact us if your organization is interested in a workshop,
